I have worked in counseling in some capacity or another for ten years. I began as a lay counselor and trained with American Associates of Christian Counselors. During this time I led a lay counseling group at a Hispanic church, Iglesia Nueva Vida (New Life Church) off of South Main St here in Winston Salem, NC.

After realizing that the needs of the people exceeded my level of training I decided to get a formal education in counseling. I obtained my undergraduate degree in psychology at Winston Salem State University and my Master’s degree in professional counseling at Liberty University.

During my practicum and internship I gained experience working with depression, anxiety, and panic disorders, relationship conflict and miscommunication. I work with women, men, couples, teens, children and groups as well as family units. My orientation background is cognitive behavioral, meaning that a transformation of the mind, thought and emotional processing will have a transforming effect on life.

I have worked with children, teens, and families for the past sixteen years, first in an educational capacity and then in roles more closely associated with counseling and mentorship. I began studying counseling in the fall of 2011 as a full-time graduate student. Coursework has included family systems, marital conflict, crisis, career, human sexuality, and addictive behaviors counseling. My practicum has involved counseling domestic violence survivors, sexual assault victims, and individuals with dual diagnoses. My completed internship at The Counseling Center has included clients from all demographic backgrounds of the Winston-Salem area seeking counseling for a variety of concerns. Serving those in need and helping teens and families achieve their maximum potential in well-being is my focus.

Financial Policies for Counseling Services: Counselor takes Cash only and will take verifiable Checks and Money Orders. 

Current rate ranges spread across Counseling Client Orientations per session: individual, $50-$60. Group, $40-$50, Couple, $60-$70, Family, $70-$80. 

Due to extreme cost of living hikes, rates could change. Financial Policies: Do not take Apps such as Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or Zelle. Do not take credit cards. Do not take public insurance such as Medicare and Medicaid. Do not take private insurance. 

These policies exist mainly to expedite counseling as ministry by ensuring ample time and attention to client needs by preventing the high costs and time needed provide third party insurance coverage and nonprofit benefits. This way, quality counseling is kept very affordable whether the client has insurance or not. Also, changes in tax policy prevent the use of apps and credit cards for providing counseling in my unique case as the sole counselor occupying my practice: Counseling and Spirituality.

Counseling involves clients ages 16 through senior years. Counselor has acquired 40 years of experience in individual, group, couples, and family therapies. Counseling is applied with genuine positive regard and empathy to clients of varied cultural and spiritual, religious, and non-religious backgrounds.

I am an educator, pastor, and licensed therapist. I have thirty two years of counseling experience. Thirty of those have been with agencies and two of those have been in private practice. I take a spiritual approach to counseling using biblical metaphors, mindfulness therapy, Cognitive therapy, and logo therapy.
